If you’re looking to secure a relatively large area against seepage of water or contaminants and at the same time you, the authorities or the developer want the solution to be durable and reliable in the real world, then the only option is a thick natural membrane. If knowing that the membrane will remain watertight over time is your top priority, then a dense, impermeable layer is unbeatable.
As an alternative to a natural membrane of pure, raw bentonite, where all the membrane material has to be transported from Dantonit to the construction site, it may sometimes be better instead to transport a much smaller amount of DantoCon Seal bentonite powder, which is then mixed with a local base material, typically sand or stone dust. This brings considerable savings on freight costs.
The finished BES material is incredibly easy to work with. It can be handled and laid using standard construction machinery, in a process that is both simple and fast.
It varies from project to project. It depends on the membrane requirements in each case, and in particular on the base material that will be used to form the BES material.
If a relatively large area needs to be secured with a membrane, then it is usually best to try and use a local base material and mix the BES material on site.
If the area is only small, it may be better to buy the BES material ready-mixed from our factory in Odense.
CORRECT ANALYSIS AND DOCUMENTATION
In principle, you should always compose, test, and document a BES material for the specific situation in which it is to be used. Typically, the transfer of past tests and documentation, including general documentation, from one project to another is not appropriate – although it is done from time to time.
